Deep Carved Snake Head Design Jar
Item: SNAKE-HEAD-POT

This pot features a snake head design.  The original artifact that inspired this pot was a pierced copper piece from the mississippian period.

This pot was hand formed using the coiling method from hand dug clay.  It was scraped smooth and the snake head design was transferred to the pot on four sides for each of the four directions.  The snake head designs were deep carved into the pot.  Then the pot was burnished with a rock to make it shiny.  It was fired in an electric kiln.  After firing the snake head designs were colored with copper color guilders paste.  Guilders paste is a wax based product used primarily for coloring and patina on jewelry, but it is also good for ceramics.
